Absorbency

Working on Gorgias (Ἐλενης ἐνκωμιον) and Alcidamas (Ὀδυσσευς κατα Παλαμηδους προδοσιας) today. One thing I have noticed recently is that if I keep reading through the text and my translation, eventually it sticks in my memory – not infallibly, and there are always a couple of infuriating bits that I can’t get straight, but generally it just goes in, whether I’m concentrating really hard or not. I wonder for how long my mind will keep up this level of absorbency? I can imagine it’s one of the things lost as one gets older… if I can keep it up until I get through this set of exams, that will do for now.
